WHAT IS SPACE?

WHAT IS SPACE?

The Vision

To provide a nurturing sanctuary for individuals who feel like outsiders and offer boundless explorations for creative self-expression.

The Backstory

It’s not easy to feel like you’re an outsider, someone who doesn’t belong anywhere. As a multicultural and bisexual woman, that was a constant reality for me. I didn’t seem to fit in any boxes and talking about my emotions was incredibly difficult. Growing up, I felt very confused. My image kept changing to keep up with other people's expectations of me and I struggled to find my sense of self. My only safe space was my bedroom (I literally taped the word “SPACE” on the door). It was a place I could create and live in the moment. I was always that kid who would doodle on the page. Doing art made me feel FREE and I was finally able to express myself without words, but I craved that sense of community. Then, I discovered “space” – I mean, a REAL space! It was a kind of converted room with high ceilings that made me feel safe and secure. On a whim, I decided that THIS was going to be the place where people like me could heal and be. I could create a community of budding artists, business owners, and lost souls who wanted to belong. And that is how "Space Creative Healing" was born, a place for those who want to share their gifts, feel safe to engage in their work, and produce some amazing things - even for fun.

As your Creative Healing Director, I want to bring you exciting experiences that fill you with laughter and joy. I want this to be a space where we can engage in creative arts, creative healing, creative workshops, and creative business ventures. This space is YOUR space - to think, work, study, and truly be yourself. Because YOU MATTER, you truly do! I’m Kay Rose, the girl with the space, and I welcome you into a world of sense and belonging.

Message from the founder:

As a therapist and an artist, I always wanted to bring creativity and healing together. I have always been passionate about art, music and all things creative and I dreamed of building a community that would incorporate these things with mental health. I felt a desire to challenge the current “cold-hearted” and “cut-off” culture, especially following the isolation many endured due to the pandemic. I would create a place that people would develop genuine connections with others and leave having had a meaningful experience. This was how the idea of SPACE was born.

Since then SPACE has developed into an entire community of creatives that get together and have meaningful conversations and honest, therapeutic interactions. The space experience has truly been life changing for a lot of us. We have created a space that demonstrates support, love, acceptance and makes it safe to be vulnerable and talk about the hard stuff. We can’t wait to welcome you all into the SPACE FAM and we hope it is as influential to you, as it is to us.
